What is a manufacturer part number (MPN)?

An MPN is the maker's orderable identifier for a specific component configuration — not a distributor SKU and not a generic description. It is how procurement, CAD, and test teams refer to the same physical part.

MPN vs other identifiers

Distributors assign their own SKUs. Internal company codes differ again. When someone says “validate the MPN,” they mean confirm the manufacturer's ordering code matches the intended package, grade, and marking.

When you do not have an MPN yet

Early design work often starts with parameters — value, package, voltage, tolerance. mpn.cc accepts a short description as well as a part number, then narrows to catalog matches you can promote to a full ordering code.
